Embarking on a journey through time, we uncover the intriguing narrative of Calbayog’s name changes that have left an indelible mark on its identity. The pages of the 1973 annual report hold a pivotal moment—the first appearance of the name “Calbayog.” Drawing from the accounts of Fr. de Huerta, a notable 19th-century Franciscan writer, navigated the transition from its earlier designation as Tiayban to its relocation along the shores of the Hibatang River. In this exploration, a captivating tale unfolds, revealing the intricate evolution of a place that now proudly bears the name Calbayog.

In the present time, Calbayog City is home to around 186,960 residents, as indicated by the 2020 census. Impressively, it holds the sixth spot in the Philippines’ list of largest cities, considering both land and water areas.

My personal journey led me to an intriguing event on August 10, 2023. The Calbayog Tourism Office extended a special invitation to tour operators and influencers from Cebu, including Kapwa Travel, for a captivating 3-day, 2-night familiarization tour. From the moment our feet touched the ground, Calbayog’s hospitality enveloped us—welcoming us with live music and bright smiles.

Once everyone was gathered, we received a comprehensive briefing and were all set to begin the tour. The excitement was palpable as we headed to our accommodations, marking the official start of our exploratory adventure.
