Panglao Island is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines and attracts vacationers from all over the world. One may disagree about Alona Beach and Panglao Island – rightly so. We are also divided on the development of this island, which belongs to Bohol in the Visayas .

Panglao Island has some great beaches. Here: Dumaluan Beach.

When we were there for the first time in 1997, there were only a few beach resorts on Alona Beach, tourism was still in its infancy. After Boracay and El Nido , Panglao is probably one of the most famous travel destinations in the country.

A website like Kapwa Travel shouldn’t miss a detailed post. And as is the case with any destination, no matter how crowded: there are great highlights and sights everywhere – you just have to know them. This article is about our best tips for a great stay on Panglao Island – we have summarized our favorite restaurants, places and sights here.

Bamboo Place & Elephant Bleu restaurant

The “blue elephant” offers delicious food at a reasonable price. The absolute highlight and the bestseller at the same time is the chicken breast in Madagascar sauce (“Chicken Breast in Madagascar Sauce, 290 Pesos”), which we have also ordered countless times. If you want to eat well and cheaply near Alona Beach , you should stop by and definitely try the incomparable crème brûlée.

Pamilacan Island

We have already mentioned Pamilacan Island on our website several times. The small island is closer to Baclayon on the main island of Bohol, but is also approached from Alona Beach and other spots on Panglao. A trip by boat (there and back) costs around 2000 to 3000 pesos, depending on your negotiation skills.

This wonderful view on Pamilacan Island is a pleasure to enjoy with our guests. The island is just an hour’s fishing boat ride from Alona Beach

If you want to see the dolphins that migrate in the morning, you should start around 6 a.m. in order to have the best chance of seeing the animals. Dolphin watching is always an absolute highlight on our tours.

Giuseppe’s

Another restaurant that we can recommend. The pizzas in particular are excellent here and come from the stone oven. Giuseppe’s price is above average, but every now and then you can afford to spend a little more money on good Italian food. Price example: Pizza “Don Carmelo” (our favorite!) For 400 pesos.

Hinagdanan Cave

This cave is on the other side of Panglao Island, not far from the Mithi Resort and Spa. The cave invites you to swim in the cool water and should be on the list during an island tour.

Birdwatchers

There is a popular Australian bar right on Alona Beach, which has the best steaks on the island. If you also like Aussie rock and live music, you simply cannot avoid the shop!

The best burger is clearly in the Oasis restaurant. By the way, we got our first diving license (Padi Open Water Diver) at the local diving school of SeaQuest about 17 years ago. Long, long ago: D

Shaka Bohol

Shaka Bohol is a chill place in Panglao famous for its organic healty breakfast bowls. They also serve other delectable meals including vegan burgers, tacos, fries, pancakes, smoothies, press juices and much more. The ambience and service is great, which will appeal to both the vegan and non-vegan.

Mithi Resort and Spa

On our first visit we were overwhelmed by the beautiful resort complex with a 25 m swimming pool, two other pools (“infinity pool”!) And a great SPA. The Mithi Resort and Spa is, in our opinion, one of the top resorts on Panglao, and we will stop by here frequently with our guests.

Bohol Beach Club (BBC) & South Palms

The Bohol Beach Club, which reopened in December 2013 after long renovation work, is a great point of contact and, like the Panglao Island Nature Resort, is very suitable for day trips. If it is too crowded at Alona Beach, you should invest in a day ticket. The price varies depending on the season and is higher than usual during peak travel times.

The southern part of the huge complex was split off from the Bohol Beach Club and a new, beautiful resort was launched: The South Palms. This is now one of our most popular partner resorts, which we have presented here in more detail.

The South Palms is probably the most beautiful and longest beach in Bohol

Donatela Hotel

Formerly Tarsier Botanika, is a beautiful botanical garden with a small zoo on Panglao Island that extends over 7 hectares and is home to over 3000 species and tropical plants. In Alona there is a small branch with the Tarsier Exotica, where there is, among other things, a small boutique and a good restaurant.

Linaw Restaurant

This restaurant is one of the insider tips on Panglao and offers a great atmosphere on “Danao beach” to enjoy a nice dinner away from the hustle and bustle. At the weekend there is a lot going on in the restaurant of the Linaw Beach Resort * and the waiting times are often very long, which is why it is better to come during the week.

Bohol Bee Farm

The Bohol Bee Farm * is the Mecca for everyone who likes to eat healthily and who values organic quality. There is not only the most beautiful and best salad on the whole island, but also delicious homemade ice cream.

Bohol Bee Farm offers healthy organic food and the most delicious salads

By the way, there are a few “offshoots” of the bee farm with the “Buzzz Cafés”. You will not only find something in the big shopping mall “ICM” in Tagbilaran, but recently also at Alona Beach.

The Bellevue Resort

Another great resort in terms of value for money and the wonderful location is the Bellevue Resort on Panglao Island. It is located on the western side of the island, far from the hustle and bustle. This 5-star luxury complex is located on the lonely “Doljo Beach”, where there are significantly fewer tourists than at Alona Beach. The Bellevue is also the first address in terms of sport:

The Defy 123 Triathlon (1 km, 110 km, 12 km) was held here for the first time in October 2013. In addition, the Bellevue Resort has been the venue for the Ironman 5i50 for a few years, which takes place annually in November over the Olympic distance (1.5 km, 40 km, 10 km).

More information about the resort can be found here .
